This 2022 Sustainable City Award is one of PLANMalaysia's initiatives to appreciate and give recognition to Local Authorities (PBT) who are committed to implementing sustainable urban development initiatives in this country through the measurement of Malaysia Urban Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets).
The 2022 Sustainable City Award, which was first introduced in 2013, is given based on four (4) categories, namely:

The selection criteria for the Best Sustainable City Award are based on

2. The percentage of increase in the achievement of the Sustainability Index;
3. Percentage of Happiness Index score achievement (KT3-P5);
