4 Community Gardens in Hulu Selangor Receive Aid

The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) welcomes the arrival of the Honorable Tuan Ir. Izham bin Hashim, Chairman of the Selangor State Standing Committee on Agriculture, Plantation & Basic Agro-Industry at Taman Desa Anggerik, Serendah for the Selangor Kita 2.0 Package Assistance Handover Ceremony for Community Gardens in Hulu Selangor District on November 2, 2021.
Among those present were Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd, MPHS President, Raja Dato' Muzaffar Raja Redzwa, Hulu Selangor District Chief, Azahar Ibrahim, Director of the Hulu Selangor Agriculture Department and MPHS council members.
In the event, YB Ir Izham handed over black soil (50 bags), hoe (2 units), hole digger (5 units), scope (2 units), hand weeder (1 piece), lawn machine (1 unit), Mini Spray (2 pieces), Getap pipe 30 meters (1 roll) and a wheelbarrow (1 piece). Aid packages were also given to Melor Village Community Garden, Jalan Inai 3 Community Garden and Berpusat Community Garden, Bukit Beruntung where each of these community gardens was given assistance in the form of community garden needs each amounting to RM 5000.
In Hulu Selangor, Kebun Komuniti came into being in 2015 which was developed by the Resident Association. There are twenty-four (24) Community Gardens around the Hulu Selangor District that have received permission from the Department to be cultivated.
To encourage residents to cultivate, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council also built a Centered Community Garden area and it was completed on 28 January 2020. The main purpose of this Centered Community Garden was established to provide opportunities for individuals who want to engage in gardening activities but do not have land for the purpose.
In the speech of YB Ir. Izham, he suggested that the gardeners now need to think about the latest methods such as the use of modern technology, including fartigation, hydroponic and aeroponic cultivation where the gardening area is small but can provide a very large return.
According to him, the state government will be ready to help provide the facilities and needs of these community gardens to be able to keep pace with individual gardens. This assistance will be developed further next year and it is hoped that the community garden committee will make more efforts to improve the products of their garden and diversify high quality plants so that this garden will be more developed and able to provide a good yield.
Gardeners are reminded to take care of the environment by not using chemical fertilizers and poisons that are proven to cause harm to gardeners and consumers. Instead, use organic and environmentally friendly products as an alternative method that is proven to be safer, healthier and does not pollute the environment, he added.
In the same ceremony, YB Ir Izham was also taken to visit the Taman Desa Anggerik community garden and had the opportunity to plant a Manggis Mesta tree as a symbol of handing over the donation.
