Selangor State Freedom of Information Enactment

The Freedom of Information Enactment (State of Selangor) 2011 was enacted with the objective to enhance the disclosure of information for the public interest and to give every individual the opportunity to access information made by State Government Departments through applications submitted to the relevant Department. This enactment was gazetted on 25 August 2011 and came into force from 5 March 2013 as approved by His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor. Also in force on the same date are two (2) subsidiary laws made by the State Authority to support the provisions of this Enactment, namely the Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) (Access to Information) Regulations 2012 and the Rules of the Body State Information (Selangor State) 2012.

Any public and external organizations who wish to obtain any information from any State Government Department may do so by complying with the following procedures:-

i.	Fill in and complete the Application Form to Obtain Information as attached below;
ii.	Submit an Application Form for Obtaining Information that has been completed by hand to the relevant Department together with a payment of RM12.00 (Ringgit Malaysia: Twelve Only) which is RM2 for the application fee and RM10 for the non-refundable processing fee deposit;
iii.	The appointed Information Officer for each Department (as per the List of Information Officers below) will process the submitted application and will provide feedback to the application within 30 days from the date of acknowledgment of receipt of the application for normal applications or within seven (7) days from the date of the acknowledgment of receipt of the application if the application involves the life or liberty of an individual; and
iv.	If the application is approved, the applicant will have to pay the remaining processing fee (if necessary) and will receive access to the requested information according to the appropriate access method; and
v.	If the application is rejected, the applicant can submit an appeal to the State Information Agency within 21 days from the date of receipt of the decision.
