Desaru Declaration 2023

Located at Desaru Coast Conference Centre, Johor.

ILAM in collaboration with the Johor State government and local authorities (PBT) has signed a declaration pledging action against climate change through the Desaru Declaration 2023 in conjunction with the Malaysian Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA13) at Desaru Johor Darul Takzim on 27 May 2023 Saturday.
Among the essence of the pledge contained in the declaration:

1- Advance the goal of sustainable development of the united nations (SDG 2030) through local authorities, other government agencies, developers, private parties and individuals in conserving the ecosystem.

2- Achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040 by reducing carbon emissions produced through landscape benefits and functions and supporting multiple modes of effective and zero carbon transport systems.

3- Increase the capacity and resilience of cities and livable communities by applying green infrastructure that works to reduce the effects of 'urban heat islands', floods and droughts.

4- Fight for social and climate well-being by increasing support for social equality, 'food security' as well as clean water supply and community well-being equally.

5- Knowledge of the cultural system by cooperating and respecting the culture of the original people in land management towards reducing the effects of climate change.

6- Involve leadership in dealing with the climate change crisis through the collaboration of various professions, suppliers and customers to produce effective designs.

LAr Mohd Fadhil bin Mohd Lani, Director of the Landscape Department represented the President of MPHS to sign the Desaru Declaration 2023.
