On 29 November - 01 December 2022, a LANDSCAPE AND SHADE TREES MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR SKILLS ENHANCEMENT COURSE WITH ARBORISTS FOR THE YEAR 2022 organized by the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council and the MPHS Staff Cooperative took place. This course was conducted for three days and two nights at the Shahzan Inn Hotel, Bukit Fraser with the participation of 37 contractors consisting of panel contractors from the MPHS Landscape Department and contractors in Hulu Selangor District, and 19 participants from Sepang Municipal Council, Raub District Council, Tanjong Malim District Council and Hulu Selangor Municipal Council staff.
The objective of this course is to ensure landscape maintenance contractors and shade trees appointed by the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council always improve and refine their existing skills. This course also aims to provide a platform for contractors who want to carry out landscape maintenance work and shade trees to gain knowledge with guidance from a professional body that not only teaches theory but also practical implementation.
A total of 5 instructors from the professional Arborist body from Eclipse Green Sdn Bhd led by Encik Roslan bin Yaakob as well as 5 assistant instructors have mobilized their energy and imparted knowledge to the course participants. This course has been implemented with theoretical methods in the classroom and practical exercises guided by the teaching staff at Bukit Fraser Public Park. The participants were then divided into three (3) groups and exposed to the correct practices and methods for shade tree maintenance work. Participants also had the opportunity to witness safe work techniques for rigging work to clear trees at risk of falling at KM422, Bukit Fraser.
In order to ensure that the objectives of this course are achieved, a skill and understanding test was also carried out on the last day. As a result, 30% of participants achieved excellent results, 48% of participants achieved good results and 17% of participants passed. This course was also completed by the Council's Deputy Secretary, Mr. Shaiful Rizza bin Haji Piamin.
