Three premises were prosecuted for various offences

THREE PREMISES TAKEN ACTION FOR VARIOUS OFFENSES

The Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) conducted an integrated operation with the Department of Environment (DOE), the National Water Management Commission (SPAN), the Selangor Water Management Board and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on two premises in the Industrial MIEL area, Batang Kali on 17 Last February 2021.

The operation started at the premises that carry out the activities of making and printing boxes that are suspected of releasing purple colored effluent into the Majlis supervision drain and the Kali river which has the potential to cause environmental pollution.

However, during the inspection no purple colored effluent came out of the premises but it was found that the premises did not practice the scheduled waste storage system properly. The DOE has issued a notice and taken samples of scheduled waste for further investigation.

Operations continue in the same area on a premise that carries out plastic recycling operations that produce resin/pallets from used plastic. The review found that the premises had a Council business license but did not specify plastic recycling activities.

The SPAN and LUAS stated that there is a risk of effluent release following the treatment pool system which is too complex and is no longer used, may have been bypassed, and caused release into the nearby river which is Sg. Kali stem.

The premises have been given a Business Premises Closure Notice under UUK 43(1)(a) and (b), UUK Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing (MDHS) 2007 for 14 days and the back gate and main gate of the premises have also been sealed for the same period .

In addition, operatives also carried out an inspection of iron processing premises in Sungai Choh, Serendah. During the visit, the premises were found to have committed the offense of releasing white effluent from the premises into the water course that flows into Sungai Selangor and had an additional building in the displacement space without the permission of the Council. The storage of scheduled waste is also not perfect, there is no label and special place for the storage room of Scheduled Materials (BT).

The Council has issued a Notice of Disturbance Abolished Under Section 82 of the Local Government Act 1976 and a notice and compound for additional building offences. While the Department of Environment (JAS) has issued 10 compounds for various offenses including the management of waste scheduled materials (BT) is not perfect.

Follow-up visits will be conducted from time to time by the technical department involved to ensure that each premise complies with the instructions given. Further enforcement action will be taken if the premises default to ensure no pollution occurs in this district.
