ILLEGAL GARBAGE HOTSPOT CLEANED UP MPHS
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) together with the contractor company Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad Waste Management (KDEB) conducted a clean-up operation at the hot spot of illegal waste dumping at Jalan Persiaran Antara Gapi, Serendah on 22 June 2023.
The council has received a high number of complaints at the location, which is a 'hotspot' location where illegal waste disposal is mixed with construction waste, rubbishbulk, domestic waste and so on. However, the cleaning work was completed on the same day.
As a preventive measure, the council has 'sealed' the area by placing yellow tape while the land owner (PKNS) has placed a sign prohibiting littering at the location in question.
The President of MPHS, Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd said a total of 26 illegal waste dumping locations have been cleaned in 2023. These illegal waste locations are difficult to detect due to their hidden locations.
"Various efforts have been implemented to eradicate illegal waste dumping sites, including carrying out cleaning works at identified locations, placing warning boards and installing barrier ropes. In addition, MPHS also offers incentives to members of the public who pass on information so that individuals who throw illegal waste are caught in order to encourage members of the public to help PBT deal with this unhealthy activity," he said.
Strictly speaking, any party that throws illegal waste will be subject to action under the Waste Disposal and Disposal Bylaws (MDHS) 2007. Until now the MPHS has issued as many as 10 notices for illegal waste dumping sites and confiscation of 3 vehicles on the year 2023
"I regret this irresponsible attitude of individuals (throwing rubbish everywhere) because it not only pollutes the environment but also invites various health problems as well as giving financial implications to the Local Authority (PBT) for cleaning work.
Thus, he advised the public, especially the local residents, to pass on information about illegal dumping activities to MPHS to prevent worse incidents from happening, thus safeguarding the image of the district.
